Stella's Social Club

Thank you all for the encouragements, I needed that.
Since it took me about 8 blows with my space to cut through the snake, I weren't online and purchased a hand shovel with sharp edges from Cold Steel. It is supposed to come today. I will feel much safer. They show a video where they cut through 3 1" ropes in one blow.
Actually, I wanted this 29" long Kukri Machete but it is our of stock....
And I know not one minute too soon...
When I closed the ten coop, I heard another young rattle, couldn't see it... This has been so far the worst season, never saw do many snakes.... but then I am grateful, all the critters come to my place, my orchard and chickens....
I will post pictures of my shovel when it comes.
Also, my brush scythe came, and after assembling it, I am happy to report, it is perfect for my application. No weed eater noise, sparks, gasoline fumes that would make me cringe in the past, no need to hire someone. The scythe cuts through the 6-8 foot tall weeds like butter... so it's my morning exercise until I am done with the yard brush clean up. Next year, I am hoping to add a Native wild flower mix to my mustards.

Here's a non-snake picture for you. ;) Creating a nice big covered run for my Cream Legbars, and in the winter it will hold most of my hens so simplify feeding and watering in the cold. Coop is an 8x8. I need to modify it to hold enough roost bars.
My dream, all green. Well with a maybe $500.00 watering budget I could do it, but that's not an option, right now. I got an evaporative cooler installed, and it was tilted, .... My water bill is $342.00 this month,...ouch... I never had a cooler like that, so I did not know. But my electric is way less and I enjoy the greater humidity and softer cooling. It used to be 30% humidity, which was damaging to my pianos, I needed to run a humidifier in addition to the air conditioning. That is now all balancing out nicely. But this water bill....

Wonder how long it will stay green? Looks great and safe!

Thanks!

Most of my pens I try to make oversized so they do have green to nibble on, in fact I have had to cycle the goats into each pen to get the weeds and grass down, as you can see in the background the pens on the left are due for a turn with the goats.

OUCH! Nope no watering here. But we have had a VERY unusually cool summer, last week we had highs in the upper 70s for several days! Including a good deluge! From this point on it is dry out time. I noticed this morning the pond has already dropped probably 8 inches. Not looking forward to 110+ temps but I'm grateful for the break we had so far.

Speaking of pianos I finally got mine tuned last week.

It sounds SO much better. It has been about 8 years and 3 moves since I tuned it.

The last G on the bass staff had a broken string about 10 years ago and it never quite got tuned right, so glad it finally sounds good again!

Thanks!

There was a news story yesterday about the US having a cooler than normal summer and that causing an increase in Natural Gas Prices. The price has gone down a bunch because of the high stock piles.

We had a bit of rain today! and are 10 degrees below average for today.

Oh ron..that must feel wonderful..10 degrees is a nice number when it comes to cooler degrees in the summer.

LP gas was very expensive up here due to issues with low stockpiles combined with a pipeline that closed unexpectedly - some people paid twice what I prepaid last fall.

Rinda, if you have a few used plastic 1 gallon or so plant pots, flip them over the tops of the poles under the netting, helps protect the netting from wear.

Thirty-five years ago, I worked for an LP gas company. At the time the fuel was about 95 cents per gallon. Employees got to buy it at cost, we paid 25 cents. All the guys had their vehicles converted and I did all my heating/water with LP. It was a luxury.
