I hope Michael was able to get some sleep at home, and the pain isn't too bad.

I think he did well last night. I went in every hour and checked on him and he was sleeping. Sometimes I just took the snoring sounds from the hallway as agod sign. he'll probably say he didn't sleep a wink! :/

Glad Michael is home and getting some sleep. Dogs do know when something is different.

Many years ago our dog Michael (no joke) didn't like my brother but, when he was sick he would stay on the bed with him. Knowing dogs the way I do, some do it because they are insecure and know that person won't be jumping up and leaving the house.

Our Michael was named for Michael Rennie the actor

Too funny. I had to google Michael Rennie. Born about the same time as me, 1909!

Tucker is insecure anyway and little deviations from the norm don't sit well with him. I think an occasional sleepover or day visit to Aunt Cynthia's will boost his confidence once he realizes we always come back and pick him up. Michael says having Tucker beside him has helped better than anything. Not saying much for my nursing skills huh? Hey, I'm rusty. It was hard being in the hospital and not overstepping my boundaries with dry IV's and beeping monitors, needles left on the bedside table, etc. For the most part I was good. I hate caps, alcohol, swabs, soiled bandages, etc, on the floor. It drives me up the wall. There is no reason, except in a code blue, to discard those things in the floor with trash cans all over the place. The two phrases I used most in my nursing career were "pick that up please" and "you're fired."

I just got Michael up and walking and we made the game plan for the rest of the day. I am enforcing the post op rules exactly as I would if he were my patient and not my spouse. He'll thank me for it later. Or not.

Even if he doesn't appreciate it, it is for the best for his health.

yes I picked him up at four yesterday afternoon. He won't leave Michael's side and seems to understand that things are different right now. he tried to climb on Michael at first but since then has been laying quietly by his side. Tucker is used to flying through a room and leaping up on top of Michael so this is unusual behavior for him. Now we just have to get it all back to the usual over the next few weeks. Thanks for asking.

Dogs just know - they are amazing. I am totally convinced our Jack Russell, Annie, saved my husband as he sank into anxiety & depression. She arrived, a little 3 month old ball of fire, but she seemed to know that he needed her. After she assessed the situation, she took over and began to boost his spirits with her constant attention and playing. When he needed to rest, she would lay quietly by his side, licking him all over. She got him up and outside and he slowly began to improve. It is now 14 years later and she has become everyone in the family's best friend but she still makes sure he is ok. She is pretty much totally deaf and her sight is going but she still does her job. She's been wonderful for us all.

This is Annie earlier this spring. She still looks great!
