I am so sorry to hear about Judge Judy.

Broodies, anyone? The second row down, first nest, has the 2 white girls - the twins. They seem to think they have to do EVERYthing together!

Oh wow.

I have a few hens thinking about it. They are on the nest at night, but not during the day. They are plucking belly feathers too, but aren't fully committed yet. Which is a good thing because I've been moving birds around and my Barnevelders won't be pure until May 1st. Welsummers even longer because I'm still figuring out who I want in the breeding pen and separating them to make sure they have nice egg color.

If somebody goes broody before then, I'll probably ask Fred for some Barred Rock eggs. I really miss having Barred Rocks. I want more Cream Legbars too. I'm downsizing, yes, downsizing.

I actually counted my birds a couple of days ago.

Nice! I need some broody hens here!

Quote: It was that or send out a bunch personal messages asking for Easter Hatch counts.

No they are done.

I think I only have 11 broodies (at the moment). I just cleaned up a little 8x8 coop and moved nests (made from tires) into each of the 4 corners and one other = 5. I moved 4 hens in there and 2 hopped right on a nest. Then, I added the 2 white girls and they took a nest. I don't know if the other 2 will sit or if I broke them. I am gonna keep the coop closed up for a couple days. It has enough light in there. We will see!

I still have 5 sitting in the hen house. I may need to move them out, too. I have another 8x8 coop that I house 3 roosters in. I can move them out of there. I would rather get the broodies out of the way.

I am not keeping chicks! They will all be mutts anyway (if they are fertile eggs!). I have a friend that will take the chicks. I will let the broody hens raise them for 3 or 4 weeks and then move them out!

Jeeze Kathy! What's up with you and the broodies? You could move to a NYC penthouse and broodies would take up residence on the terrace. I hope no one over here gets any ideas because I don't have a rooster! My girls are laying like gangbusters though. I get 3-4 eggs a day which is perfect for us. I even have two full cartons in the fridge!

I went on a buying trip this morning to a few of my Facebook groupies, then on to Habitat for Humanity. I got some great small pieces to fix up,including a small mid century modern 3 drawer chest for $20! We just about finished painting the shop today. It's all coming together.

I am dog tired and going to bed early.

I think they overcooked the whites, that is common with hard boiled eggs too. I would probably cook them until just done through, then turn them out to cool so the pan did not cook them longer. I was also wondering if frying the scrambled yolks is the best way to cook them - maybe shirred instead?

OMG I am tired. I am only taking a break right now because I essentially chalk painted myself into a corner. Or the equivalent. I painted a small chest with the lid open so I can't close it to paint the top of the lid! So I am waiting for paint to dry.

Michael is working on the shop while I get paint projects done at home. The floor patch has fumes so I am ordered to stary away. I can do that!

Michael got us all set up to take money and credit/debit cards via the square. I practiced for the first time. Geeze, when that cash drawer opens you get a good whack in the abdomen! He just got security cameras set up down there so we can monitor from home or on the road. I will use it to catch Emily on Facebook! :-)

Making BLTA's for dinner tonight because we have been too tired for much else than sandwiches. Last night I did make barbeque chicken and fresh asparagus.

Good grief, it's raining! Gotta go get furniture moved in!
