Stella's Social Club

My critter has been coming back. I've lost 2 more juvenile birds over the past couple of weeks. No bodies found, just feathers. I found a section of chewed through netting by a lodge pole that was a 4X4 opening. I zip tied it shut and added more zip ties along the netting at the fence. Then, early Sunday morning, it occurred to me that maybe this critter was lying in wait at dawn for an ambush when the birds come out the pop door.

So I took my dog out, and she spotted it right away. I didn't get a good look, because the sucker moved so darn fast. It is small, has a tail, super fast, and agile like a squirrel. Smaller than a cat. No wonder it couldn't carry off my adult birds, they are larger than it is. I'm thinking it's a weasel. I would have never believed we have weasels here, but the internet says we do, and they do kill for sport.

My dog and I went out again this morning, but no sign of it, much to her disappointment. She loves chasing critters.

Oh no, I hope you get rid of it soon.

Hope Shadow gets it or at least scares it into the next county!

Thanks, me too. I'm tired of losing birds.

Sure sounds like a weasel

Grrrrr. I think we have officially seen every predator possible here now. I have physically seen a bear, opossum, skunk, bobcat, coyote, foxes, mountain lion, raccoons, snakes, owls, hawks.............and now weasels.

Hawaii or Australia is sounding pretty good right now.

She's fast, but not sure she is THAT fast. She has caught a jack rabbit twice, so I'm hoping she can catch the darn thing. I had my phone with me this morning to try to get it on video, so I can identify it. But it wasn't there today.

Do you set out any traps?

chicken canoe uses them for weasels.

Make sure the dog can't get to it though. There are also some guides to using them on google.
