Stella's Social Club

It happens EVERY year. We get a warm spell in January and everything blooms, then a cold snap and snow. It's good for the apples though, we haven't had enough chilling hours this year.

My oldest got his first experience driving in snow, and made it home safely. DH is on his way home, but he is good driving in snow and has 4wd. So, I can relax now.
There was an article that said the Almond crop will be smaller this year because of the weather. It does seem to happen like that every couple of years

Oh, and I have to get a picture of Marshmallow, my hatchery light brahma hen. She is the only hen left from my original flock, and she is now 10 YEARS old. She hasn't laid a normal egg in years, but gives me 3-4 fart eggs a year.
that is amazing! 10 years old is very old for a hen

Good girl.

I went over to Mackinac Island today on the ice, friend of mine and I rode our snowmobiles over, had some business to do there. It's going to be a short season for going over, there were a couple pretty big pressure cracks and there is open water not too far away from the trail. It's three and a half miles across the ice, and we don't get an ice bridge every year.

Nice! I have an old barred rock like that, she might be about 7. She took to going broody later in life. I'll see if she does it again this year.

I have 2 broodies, and I gave them both some eggs to hatch. I really wanted to hatch from my blue Barnevelder, but she is one of the broodies. Maybe later in the summer when she is back to laying.
:fl
