I was wondering what ever became of the doormat project...........

The other thing I was reminded of..........Kelly, what's the scoop on the bee hive your DH got?

I did some coop renovation and cleaning yesterday..........what a commotion at lockup last night....they were so discombobulated....poor things...but they worked it out.

edited cuz I can't spell.........

Discombobulation is a good thing if you're trying to break broodies. I've found if I rearrange the furniture the broodies will break themselves!

Beehive DH got.

You're funny - you don't actually think he has even touched it (other than putting the hive together) now do you?

The bees are doing fine. On my last inspection of the hive, the queen had moved up into the upper box, which I was happy to see as there is more room up there. There are soooooo many bees in there now, it's harder to get them out of the way to see the frames. They are building the frames and storing honey - won't be any honey for me this year, I'm leaving it all for the bees.

I haven't had any "helpers" come up with me, so I don't have any new pictures yet. I can't really hold the frame (they are heavy) AND take pictures.

I hope Jake is just too busy getting things settled and ready for the long winter to post here, and that nothing happened to delay his arrival in AK.

We got some much needed rain yesterday. The chickens will be out "bug grabbing" today. I'll try and get those oft promised pictures...............

Kelly, Here are Asta's group........the two Welsummers look like one of each to me.......what do you think?
There is one silkie, one BBS Am and one Icelandic to roundout the brood........

And my two current broodies........SLW Iman, she has a BUNCH of eggs under her, and Icelandic Elska, flattened like a pancake on those eggs and barely visible

Hi all, I have not been on in a while and found this thread (thanks NotAFarm). There seems to be a lot going on......with everyone.

Mary; I LOVE the fence!!!!! Your neighbors suck!

Talk to me about broodie hens.

I have a silkie that was given to me from a breeder who was downsizing, it is supposed to be around 8 months old. She is definately a she as I have found an egg or two in the mornings ( the others are only 4 months old so it HAS to be her)

Well, she sits in the coop for hours at a time, all flattened out, hunkered down. Hubby and I remove her several times, to make her eat and drink (which she does) but then she goes right back in and in the corner. She has nothing in the pen with her.... Is she trying to become broodie or what?

Side note: everyone (even my ducks) have stopped laying in this heat, the majority are also molting.... Could it be the heat that is making her act this way?
