Stella's Social Club

at night open the doors and turn off the lights. try putting a outside light on

Exactly, I had a cat delivered bat when I was living in Camino. After running for the camera to take a picture, I opened the doors and turned out the lights. It flew right out.

Oh oh, it's pretty greyish. I'll take a better picture tomorrow. I just snuck it out for the birth announcement. I have a marans zipping so I can't open the incubator again right now.

Awww, now I can sit down for a while. The poop masters are locked up for the night and the carpet has been shampooed. Tomorrow - they are going out into the garage! Much easier to clean concrete floors than carpeting.

#7 is gone. #6 is doing great except her left leg is turned totally to the side. She runs and jumps and rolls. Likely that is what is making it worsen so dramatically? She has a great personality, too.

When do you find out who are girls and boys?

I just got the paperwork printed off today. Maybe I can get them in the mail tomorrow.

Aw, bless their busy little hearts. They do poop, don't they? Yikes. My best brooder set-up was the long pet pen in the garage with a drop cloth covered with a thick layer of shavings. But that was for only 3 not 6! OH MY GOODNESS.

I am really excited about the DNA testing. Get those samples in the mail. We need to know!

Youse guys are always luring me with your emu photographs and videos. I don't have enough land!

Kathy, you have always, always amazed me with your you-ness, from the first PM we exchanged in 2009 to this current batch of situations you're enduring.

Mary, too. Your you-ness is just as endearing and amazing. Hey, what's so scary about a bat? They don't eat much. ;)

Speaking of said bat, it is NOW outside. It suddenly launched itself across the living room to enter my "office/infirmary/guest room" where I was able to sequester it. Lights off, door open to the deck, screen propped open, and it let itself out.

I don't have to make up a garlic braid necklace before I go to sleep tonight.

I pulled all my cartons of eggs out of the incubator and candled them. 24 ended up clear or with blood rings. I was expecting it because some of these eggs were pretty old. I have remaining:

15 Icelandic Eggs
15 Cream Legbar Eggs
8 Isbar Eggs

I am sure I will lose a few more as some of the veining seems to be forming a blood ring. I'll get a few chicks though. One of the Icelandic pullets is laying a perfectly round little egg with no visible air cell. I have no idea which end is the top. The eggs are all clear and they sound like fine china when the flashlight touches them.

Kelly's babies are so cute. I like big fat chicks. They are running around the brooder like crazy and started eating and drinking. One is a bully though, always pecking at the others. Michael was starting to get a little too cozy with them today. I had to remind him that they don't belong to us!

Line up one hundred women on the street Linda. Ask those who don't mind having a bat in the house to step forward. I cannot imagine that front line will be too crowded!

But thanks for your kind words.

Ew, I would be at the closest hotel if there was a bat in my house.

LOL - reminds me of a time at our old house when I was awakened by an inhuman scream and my husband tearing into the bedroom with a blanket over his (bald) head. Apparently he was watching TV and a bat breezed through the room between him and the TV a couple times. I had to come out and herd it out of the house to protect him For the remainder of the time we lived there he kept the spare bedroom door closed since that's where it came from. We think it squeezed through a hole from the attic. When I asked him what the blanket was for, he said he'd heard stories of them getting tangled in peoples hair.

Sorry about #7 :( is there any way a splint on that twisted leg might help?
