[Happy Chooks]

I waited out there for over 30 minutes (in 108 degree weather mind you) waiting for her to lay her darn egg. (who's trained here?) Finally I got sick of it and moved her, shavings bag and all - so I could load the feed. Then picked the shavings bag back up and put it on top of the feed bags (which are on a shelf 4 ft high). She didn't budge.




I'm thinking this is NOT a good sign.

I want eggs!

Speaking of broodies..........guess what beautiful pullet had peeps coming from her nest box tonight?


My helper came back to town to help with the chickens.........the NHs don't like being herded about any more than the Icelandics did the last time she was here!

I must have moved in with Mahonri too because it was HELL at my house too. Sacramento is slated for 111 degrees tomorrow. Unreal.

Good....bad....depends on who's looking at it!

I am getting one....ONE.....egg a day right now.....I have 7 hens laying age and I'm getting ONE egg......most days....one SLW molting, one SLW raising a chick and one SLW sitting on eggs due next week. Asta with 5 chicks, Elska on 8 eggs/chicks (pics soon), Anna weaned her chicks and may be tag-teaming with Bara for the one egg I'm getting........DH doesn't understand why I have "all those chickens" and am only getting ONE egg a day.......... I keeping tellling him that those "big red chickens" (his description of the New Hampshires I got from Kathy) aren't old enough to lay........even though they look "big enough"! The Mumford & Sons stopover event is coming to the town north of us and my son and his GF are coming in for the weekend..DD and granddaughter will be here through the next week...full house of visitors and I have to go buy eggs..........

Buying eggs goes against everything we believe in and hold dear. At least buy from a neighbor or something and not those anemic things at the market!

Welcome to my world!
I have 2 hens on 5 weeks of chicks.
1 on babies I just gave her.
2 who layed for 5 weeks and decided to go AGAIN.
And my little hatchery orphington who's taken over the outside nest all day but coming in at night and not laying I don't even know WHAT that is.. shes a part time Mum.
The girls that are laying are so ****** at me. YOU PROMISED NESTS!
