Stella's Social Club

Oh, Diva please don't go anywhere, you certainly know more about chickens than I do. I love your sense of humor.

Kathy get well soon! Do you know the cause?
Ditto for Diva and Kathy,

Diva - any comments made by Mary or myself were purely in jest and love. No offense intended in the least. I am sorry if anything I said hurt your feelings.

I woke up this morning. Yes, I did. Glad I did, too.
These "allergy" symptoms began last night, after I spent the day outside - cleaned out a coop, etc. I took a couple Benadryl last night and still could not get to sleep until close to 3AM. The Benadryl did not seem to help my symptoms much. Peri-orbital edema - swollen puffy around the eyes. I have never had "allergies" before, other than when I got into some poison ivy a few years ago. So, what is the deal with this?

Today I went to the doctor. I got a shot and a script for prednisone. I am also to continue the Benadryl and alsoI am to take Zantac. These 2 meds are histamine inhibitors or antagonists, because we do not want any more histamine produced! (Histamine triggers the inflammatory response)

Anyway, if it gets any worse, I am to go to the ER. She said it could progress into a medical emergency if the edema continues and results in optic nerve compression.

Boy do I sympathize with folks who suffer with ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid which may cause a decreased field of vision)!

Oh dear! I hope you get better soon and find out what you are allergic to. Could it be something you ate? Or a new cleaner you are using that you acccidently breathed in? Another thought is were they spraying for mosquitoes near you? Just trying to think of something new in the environment that could have caused it.

Diva, I never intended to hurt your feelings! I was just teasing and if it came off badly, I am so sorry. You are dear to me in so many ways and if you went away, the thread would never be the same. You see things from an entirely different aspect than some of the rest of us and your take on things is always interesting, and most of the time, funnier than hell.

So I am sincerely sorry and won't mention it again. I just couldn't believe that you didn't have chickens when I learned that you didn't. Your advice and interaction with people was always right on. You have a huge flock of chickens in your heart and you use your knowledge and compassion to the benefit of the rest of us.

So please accept my apology. I never meant to hurt you. I consider you one of the crown jewels of BYC and the Stella thread. It would be a lonely place without your wit and wisdom. I look forward to every word that comes out of your conehead. And, if you leave I will just follow you, so you might as well stay. Stella agrees. She's ready for a road trip.

Kathy what's giving you allergies this time of year? This is when we start getting some relief. Although, our cedars just spouted little dingle berries that shed yellow pollen. The bottom of the pool was solid yellow. Michael has been working for days to get it cleared out. I was going to take a picture of the hello water and tell the grandkids that what happens when someone pees in the pool. They are probably too old to buy that story anymore though but the color was impressive. I hope you get some relief. I had my eyelids done a few years ago but they are droopy again. When skin starts going south there is little you can do to fix it and still look like yourself. Just ask Kenny Rogers.

I fI had to take Benedryl during the day you just might as well put a mattress on the floor and that's where I'll be. But when I do wake up, I'll be hyper as hell.

Maybe this means that Mike should do all the coop cleaning since he's retired now.

Eva, I am so sorry about your chickens. What a tragic loss. Chickens and dogs, my fear since Day 1 when I got chickens. I know if left unattended with access to the chickens even my sweet Tucker would probably become a chicken killer. I have to keep them apart to keep the chickens safe.

We have a new neighbor who stops by our house with two young children and three big dogs. They wait for the school bus. Only one of the dogs is on a leash. A large pitbull and another huge dog are loose. They wander over our property and up the hill to the coops. They come back down when she heads for home but they have no reason to be on my property at all. She probably leaves them off leash at home too and it would be all too easy for them to wander back down here on their own. I bought this sign yesterday and I will post it on the fence where she waits. It may sound mean but I am so sick of always having to deal with other people's dogs!

If you need hatching eggs to rebuild your flock I am sure many of us can help out. I have Isbar and Icelandic eggs at this time. Not many Icelandic because Lukka and her daughter are still raising babies.

Just received a letter from the neighbors in the gated community across the road from us. Signed by two different residents in two houses. The rooster noise is causing them to lose sleep, have related health issues, is jecopardizing their jobs, and has devalued their properties. The one whose house is for sale said she has had to disclose the "nuisance" to prospective buyers and it has significantly lowered the value of their home. All the verbage has "legal" written all over it. They have put me on notice to get rid of my roosters.

Bad day for me. I should have bought a single wide on a100 acres and gotten the hell away from people completely. I have had to endure other people's noise, dogs, etc. every where I have lived. Now this!

Mary, look at the rooster collars I posted on the Nor cal thread. They should handle the issue. Yours are legal, and this will keep them quieter, adn looks easy. Let me get post number.
