LOL I told my kids the chick in the video was saying, "Merry Christmas!" I then told my 5 year old she needed to go train our solo chick (hatched this morning but the others aren't out yet) to say Merry Christmas, too. She just gave me The Look. Then my 3 year old disappeared and came back a few minutes with the chick, "Mommy, he won't say it!"

Well, I am already out of the New Year's Day hatch. I set 8 of my cream legbar eggs but none were fertile. That's ok. I have too many already. I just wanted to see if the color was better on this new group with my new rooster. Apparently he isn't doing his thang quite yet.

Too many...No, never too many he is still pretty young.

My lavender ameraucana laid her first egg this morning. I was laughing so hard because she has the strangest egg song I have ever heard. I'm going to have to video it. Anyhow, she hopped off the nest - so I got up in anticipation of that blue egg and....................................................







it's a light olive green. Of course the picture doesn't capture the color correctly.



Guess I'll be waiting for my Cream Legbar for blue eggs.

wow is it cold. we have clouds moving in and weather on the way. It is not much above freezing here.

We have only had 2 frosts so far this year. This is highly unusual. Today it snowed for the first time of the season, but didn't stick as the air temp. is around 38.

I saw some hatching eggs on EBay for the legbars but have no idea if that is a good place to get them.

I am getting some silkie eggs for the bator and have some chicks coming from McMurray at the end of January. I told DH that I *need* some baby chicks.
