I could not sleep at all yesterday. I worked all night, and came home to Brittney in labor. Recall, she is not suppose to labor! She is scheduled for a C-Section on Friday. hahahahaha......

Kathy, how wonderful! Congratulations.

My niece who gave birth to quadruplets on Jan. 30th, informed us last night that one of the little girls had passed. (She had girl, boy, boy, girl... last one born passed yesterday.)

Last night another niece (who's brother's funeral I sang at on Saturday) gave birth to a baby boy..

My mother now has 40 great grandchildren.

I got the call this morning that my chicks had arrived at the post office. I rushed down to get them and grabbed my camera on the way out of the house. I always open the box at the post office in front of the postal worker. He cut the zip ties for me and we both gasped when I took the top off.

Two of the babies were submerged and stuck solid in little cups of GroGel in the corners of the box. One baby was stuck up to his neck, the other mid belly. Both were motionless with their little heads thrown back. I could see that several extra chicks had been sent so I didn't wait for a note about the DOA's. I pulled the babies out of the goo and laid them down in the bedding.

I rushed home and put the active ones in a brooder and worked to try to revive the other two. I rinsed off as much of the GroGel as I could with warm water.

This is the one that was stuck up to his neck.

I used a blow dryer on low for 30 minutes while rubbing their chests and trying to keep them alive. After a few minutes they began to breathe, then move, then open their eyes, then try to stand.

The little one that was stuck the deepest and was the deadest recovered faster than the other one. It started walking and chirping first. But in the end, here they both are two hours later. I painted their toenails red know I could tell them from the others. I want to watch them closely.

The feisty one is running around the brooder pecking everyone else on the toes and she's the one with red toenails!

Many of the chicks are not day olds. Some of them have wing feathers already.

They actually added a lot of feed to the box in addition to the three containers of runny GroGel. The plastic cups were glued in the corners so at least they didn't tip over on a chick. But the GroGel was too runny, allowing the chicks to become trapped.

I am relieved that everything worked out as well as it did. I videotaped the chick revival and I'll post it later.Right now I need a nap.

Mary
