Duckling bills and bitty webbed feet are surefire awwwww getters. Especially the Cayugas.
Deb, last year when one of my gals hatched and raised 14 ducklings I was constantly in love, watching them trundle around after their Mama and being kept in line and protected by a Toulouse goose! When all 14 got into the stock tank to swim, OMG. I counted them all as they scrambled out, every time!
Chicks are adorable, but ducklings... Oh my goodness. I can feel my heart swell every time I see baby ducks!
These are my only two, the first time I ever incubated waterfowl. I can remember my son's ducklings/goslings when he was in 4-H. I can hardly wait for these two to get a little older so I can take them swimming in the hall bathtub! I love to float little bits of greens and let them dabble in the water
Forsaela is beautiful .when she isn't throwing stink eyes. In her fierce photo I feel like she is looking right at me and NOT happy with what she sees. I'm leaving the bedroom light on tonight till I get that look out of my mind.
I repeat tho, she is beautiful and I love her name. I will be borrowing it to name one of my seedlings. I hybridize streptocarpus.
We had a couple of "mild" days and Forsaela decided she should go broody. I tried taking her out of the nest in the evening and returning her to the rafters. The next morning she would go back. I put her in the broody coop, sand floor, roost, no nest, when I let her out after two days, she went back to the nest box..........so....I put her in with Falki (he's been in solitary for a while now)......it seems to be working so she is staying in with him........I can't be having her "infect" the others while the weather is still so cold....I gave them the "I know it is 40 degrees and the sun is shining today, but the high on Saturday is going to be 23.....so NO brooding until, at least, this time next month" speech. We'll see if they listened.....I was in the main coop with the Icelandics since I'm figuring they are my probable broodies....I'm thinking since there was a GNH on the nest when I went out to lock-up that I should have given them the speech too.....of course, they also came from Kathy........
On the "good news, bad news" report.....got a new camera, my favorite Fuji died....
Here is a pic from this evening.....
the aforementioned Falki and Forsaela...
