I went out to close mine up the other night and one of my tolbunt hens was wedged in the opening of a cement block. I like to have never gotten her out.

No,No,No,No - Last year was the year of the rooster, this is a hen year, right?I have gotten a huge rooster to hen ratio this Spring. I just figured it was because of the crazy weather.
Quote: My hen to rooster is getting out of hand too--It is close to 50% now!![]()
Just kidding. I hatched 7 Crele Penes X CLs and they were all pullets. That hatch included two Barnie OE eggs and one was a pullet and the other a Cockerel. 8 pullets and 1 cockerel. The last couple look lke they are more even.
Last year I hatched nearly all roosters. I gave away 6 Olandsk Dwark chicks to a friend, those of course ended up being 5 hens, 1 rooster. Other than that I got 3 pullets last year. Ducks I went 9 ducks to 5 drakes, and Turkeys I did great, Trio of midget whites ( one hen died), a pair of Bourbon Red ( I sold) and 1 pencil palm hen still here. This year year I need females or I'll be buying. My hen to rooster is getting out of hand too--It is close to 50% now!![]()

Quote: It looks like I have three cockerels and four pullets from the Blue Egg layers hatch--Three are splash and 4 are blue. The Bresse hatch is hard to tell but I see something like 5 of 11 pullets and 6 cockerels. I don't know though. They are 4 weeks old I think. I will check more seriusly in a couple of weeks.
The Bresse are very sweet. I need to break out some breeding trios to sell from them and then I will keep two pullets and one roo for myself--I have a Bresse pullet at POL, so that will give me a quad to breed.
The Crele Pene hatch was two pullets and two cockerels. That one had the lowest hatch rate but was still 50\50. Next to hatch will be Blue Australorps and then Black Penedesencas.
I do have an easter hatch--SG Dorkngs and Delatwares from Star Rose Ranch(capayvalleychick) but those go to the Ranch right away so I will not know gender.
I am happy with the ratios I have been getting but I live in California not a winter wonderland of Ice and snow.
Since the Hens determing gender, have you considered trap nesting to see which ones are throwing mostly Cockerels?
Uhhhhhh haha
very niceWith all the cute photos of piglets, kids, chicks, Emus, and Tucker, what everyone is really wondering is what is going on with Mike's addition. Well the floor is done and the door is up (still needs a window, which should be ready in a week or two). Here is a pic. The door really blends into the wall.

Mike, I like that the door slides.........saves floor space and looks great! With all the cute photos of piglets, kids, chicks, Emus, and Tucker, what everyone is really wondering is what is going on with Mike's addition.
