I was just down at State Fair, I was one of the judges in the Champion Challenge competition. I manned table 3 in the poultry section. My five questions to proctor.
  1. Here are six eggs, which should you not set (they needed to pick them up to look). Egg 5 was filthy and egg 1 was cracked.
  2. Big plate of around 20 feathers - which one came from a rooster (there was a pointy saddle feather in there).
  3. An opened egg on a plate - point out the germinal disc, chalaza, the thick albumen & the thin albumen
  4. How many days to incubate a turkey egg & how are commercial turkeys bred
  5. Figure out the percent of RC when breeding RC (Rr) to SC (rr).

But OMG, there is a display of exotic birds there. The owner of the display wanted to know if I would take home and incubate some MACAW eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ummm, duhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Deb didja do it?? Did you take the Macaw eggs?? Huh, huh,
The worker was there and he took my phone number. The owner was going to be there in a half hour. He had inquired to the building, but they weren't sure if I was willing. (yeah right!). I'll be back down there tomorrow afternoon, then through Thurs. night. I'm sure I'll get a chance to talk with him.

Deb, I was thinking that it sounded like the junior dog judging classes at dog shows years ago. I suppose they still have them but, haven't gone since the early 90's (as spectator)

I generally judge the dog portion of master showmanship every year (I showed dogs about 35 years), but this year I'm judging the poultry portion. She needed a poultry person and it was easier to find an extra dog judge.

Deb 1980 was my last litter - after that just dropped in on the International Kennel Club show in Chicago, because they sent me free tickets. I used to see if anyone I knew was till around. Kennel name used to be Golden Acre even tho when I started we had a 35' city lot. First litter in '68. Gosh am I old! Had Cockers what did you show??

See you're Calif. Got my best 'female dog" from Hansi Rowland and Pat Seger I think from Sun Valley - of course my mind is gone. I remember the names but not the city. Darn it.
