Stella's Social Club

Hi all . Just checking in to say. MOVING is crazy and getting a home you've lived in for 23 years ready to sell is even more insane. It's good I have a wonderful PATIET wife. Yesterday I put down new flooring in the washer dryer room after work. I AM SORE. This morning is paint the family room and den day as well as finishing some landscaping work out back. Amazing how nice you can get things to look when you aren't living there!. We've got to sell it soon before I go broke.

I just put 5 cream Legbar eggs under a pair of broody Silkies (they take turns sitting on them, or hop in together). So far my biggest issue with the CL's is getting a really nice roo - lots of cockerels but so far lots of faults. Let me know if you would like some eggs, Mary, I am using a cream roo (the only acceptable one so far) over 2 cream and 2 gold hens

I live in one of the very few areas in Michigan that does not have deer, but last year the crows ate every apple off my trees in about 2 days - #@#!

Arrgh. I ordered the 2013 import cream legbar eggs and the shipping was messed up. I was told they would ship on Tuesday this week. In actuality, they had been sitting already in my post office for almost five days when I found out on Monday.I wasn't expecting them last week so I wasn't watching out for them. Eight of 15 are developing and three of those are extremely porous.

I think I need to give up on cream leg bars.

Mary , I have crele penedesenca and white empordanesa eggs. plus some blue ameraucana x white empordanesa olive egger eggs. Just sayin. If you want to add any.

I switched to Blue Egg Layers from the University or Arkansas:

I have 4 pullets and 2 cockerels. One boy is on the perch and one of the splash pullets is on the other side of the wire. The other Blue boy is on the ground with two Crele Penedesencas.

The Blue and Splash pullets in this picture are Blue egg Layers. There are also two Crele Pene pullets.

One of the Blue Egg layers started laying a couple of weeks ago. The little blue egg is it.

They are heat hardy and they hatch well from shipped eggs. I ordered the hatching eggs from BYC member caj1985. Jason has chicks hatched from her flock too.
I just decided to keep 2. I had 3 hens but I sold one that hung out with 2 olive eggers I had. I may get more though as I really like them.
Here is my splash one

Mary - you need to have them send you more eggs. She said if you had a bad hatch rate, she'd send you more.

Dar - nice to see you back! Good luck getting everything done so you can sell the house.

Diva - I thought I said this earlier, but I'm sorry you are feeling down. May a bright cloud come your way.

Jason - nice looking hen! I've never seen a breed with such a high tail set.

Thanks. That is the main Penedesenca trademark for hens anyways. Males have the King Comb as theres

Kelly I sent her an email with the candling results. You know it will be days before I hear back, if ever! This has been the most frustrating breed of chicken for me. Due to no fault of the breed itself, of course!

Anyway,

Nice looking girls Jason and Ron! I don't need any olive eggers Jason. I have four pullets and I am waiting for point of lay. They hatched from very dark green eggs so I am hopeful they will be lovely.

I am still so tempted by the crele penedesencas but don't quite know how I would get them from you. But I will be thinking about it.

Mary

What did you have for breakfast? I made a jalapeno cheddar omelet with peppers from my garden.

The egg yolk color has improved since I started giving them more greens. I wish they didn't completely destroy the runs. I would love for them to get their own greens right at home. Plus, I wouldn't have to pay for it!

I had something similar but had left over ground beef chili meat in mine.

Yours is much nicer looking though.
