Even Vonnie, my hatchery EE has chicks ( she killed all her eggs, I think she exploded every one, but dedicated!) This year, only my cream legbars and ONE lone silke that hates chicks and my other ee pullet have not even attempted to raise their own. My hatchery Australorp went broody for 2 weeks but quit when it got too hot. Even my friends chicken that is here under quarantine ( long story) is sitting on eggs.

Vonnie does not know how too coo or cluck, she growls at the chicks, they are a bit intimidated by her!

Mind you, I don't really try and break them all that much.

Yuck, the smoke from wildfires in Oregon is choking the sky in northern California. I may need my oxygen before bedtime today.

Mayhem! Michael found emu Chica out of the pasture, roaming the gravel road that runs along the back edge of our property. There is no fence between that and the busy road.

To have gotten there she had to go over the ranch fence. That is scary stuff. She is chased and harassed all day long by Stuart and Loca so they probably got her running and she toppled over. We managed to get her back in by herding her into the donkey pasture then into the emu pasture using the Polaris ATV. When she got back in they went right back to chasing and fighting her.

We are thinking about cross fencing their pasture and putting Louis and Chica on one side (he leaves her alone) and Stuart and Loca on the other side. They won't have as much room to run but they will still have more the the 100 feet length that is recommended.

Look at the cream legbar hatching egg I got from Greenfire.

Always something at The Buck 'n Run Ranch! If it is not broodies, It is crazy emu running amuck!
You got it! That is why my blog is named Everyday Miracles and Mayhem at the Buck 'n Run Ranch !

On the up side, two of the broodies quit sitting today. They may be back there tomorrow but they spent most of the day in the runs.

Isi has taken over caring for Lukka's Swedish Flower baby. It is so sweet. He walks with it during the day and keeps the BCM from beating it up. Today I put watermelon wedges in the runs. Isi grabbed pieces of melon and fed it to the baby. I almost cried. I cannot imagine my flock without Isi. He is one in a million.

My second attempt at blackberry scones worked better than the first, My picture was published by 5 of the 6 top food porn sites! I know it is a bit overexposed but I liked the look. The berries and leaves really stood out on this one.
