MLS #13050487 The property in that listing just came up for sale two days ago. 2.64 acres (size and zoning legal for chickens and livestock) 2 BD, 1 bath "fixer." It happens to be adjacent to my rooster-intolerant neighbor, though, on the "next road up" from ours. Physically uphill from him.... And from my house. (My current one, not the new property I am buying away from close neighbors.) So, some BYCer should buy it and we'll sandwich him in..... I am keeping some of my flock here - I am not moving - just the majority of the flock will be relocated. Someday I may build something or place a manufactured home there, and move lock, stock AND barrel, but not real soon. A tiny part of me wishes that new listing on Starwizard Lane had been available when I bought my house just a bit over two years ago, so the Great Chicken War of Old Outingdale Road would never have happened. However, they know I am technically not legal here, just allowed by administrative decision after the county- selected attorney appointed as judge for the administrative hearing decided in my favor. My neighbors really could make it poopy for me if I don't respect their rooster-intolerance. If my parcel were an acre or larger, I would tell them to pound sand without impunity. So.... Anybody interested? :gig

Maybe if I was about 2000 miles closer....

We've dickered back and forth on the 9 acre place we put a bid on last week and have finally settled. Now the process REALLY begins.... but I'm glad we have a goal in sight now!

I don't like the house much, 4 bed 2 bath but the layout of the house is kind of funny, stairs up and down on each side due to add-ons, tiny dining room, etc... we are hoping to eventually put a road back into the property and build what we really want and then sell the original house and front acre or two. This could be our forever place! We get a decent-sized pond (not seasonal most years like many Oklahoma ponds), a creek near the back, about half of it is cleared the other half is woods. Called the county just to check, and this particular county is very livestock friendly. As long as we are outside city limits no one can do a thing about our chickens. This place is also agricultural zoning. So we will be set! Haha hubby is already talking about which breeds we want to add on.... I'm just pulling my hair out trying to finish renovations to this place with 4 kids underfoot so we can move the chickens and bees and list it!

I am feeling a little rooster intolerant this morning myself after listening to one of the teenage cockerels sing to the world starting before the crack of dawn. He has a pretty rough breaking voice too. I never notice my big rooster, he sings beautifully (and never early).

Mutts my Alum Rock boys choir ( grow outs) starts around 4.

This is why we moved the main coop into the open basement tool shop thingie under the house. 4 am is too early for friendly neighbors.

We have a fox sneaking around our quail cages trying to find a way in. It is scaring the girls out of eggs. Don't they know how rude that is?

Good morning all. I am just heading out to the Wednesday Farmers Market. I bought some organic dog food from a gal there last week and Tucker loves it! He is a really picky eater. I need to get some more.

Also I was out of cash by the time I got over to the homemade hummus guy. He gave me a $5.00 tub of avocado-cilantro-lime hummus to try. I told him I would come back this week with the money.

I also need greens for the chickens, goats and emus. I have decimated my garden of chard.

I bought some delicious chilies there last week and I need some more of those too.

Sad note, we lost one of DeeDee's babies two days ago. It was the little dark one. It got out into the yard through a gap in the fence and a little Cooper's hawk got it. I found it under the maple tree just outside the runs. The pressure treated wood I made the gates out of warped like crazy and they stopped shutting properly. Michael remade three gates yesterday and the remaining two just need wires tighteners corner to corner. I del so guilty and sad about losing that baby. Michael also dumped rocks in the corners where the little ones were getting through and running into the next pen. Maintaining runs on a slope when the grass is denuded and the gophers are prolific is hard. I am sort of dreading the rain this year. Last year we at least had some dry grass to hold the sail in place.

Gotta get going before it gets too hot.
