Stella's Social Club

Mary, am so sorry to hear about your newest trouble - and that you have had so much adversity in the past. Hopefully this all simmers down, and a letter to them with a copy of your zoning allowance of farm animals will at least make them rethink their objections. There are certain people that I stay strictly away from because they are VERY likely to cause mischief, suing anyone who they think they can get a buck out of, and generally causing a lot of ill will otherwise. Wish they would learn to live and let live.

Cheesemaking again yesterday, cheddar this time - this stuff is kind of complicated! I love the cheese press though, it is beautifully made. Of course the milk did not set up when rennet was added, and we were due at BF's parents for a birthday dinner, so I left the pot sitting on the counter - several hours later when we got home it had set!! So I went ahead and processed it ( very labor intensive and took several hours) but I am not sure if it will be any good, seems very acid to me when I tasted it but I have little experience. It was good practice anyway, and I'm going to try again with fresher milk next time.

Mine is prettier than this one, the wood has beautiful grain.

Just received a letter from the neighbors in the gated community across the road from us. Signed by two different residents in two houses. The rooster noise is causing them to lose sleep, have related health issues, is jecopardizing their jobs, and has devalued their properties. The one whose house is for sale said she has had to disclose the "nuisance" to prospective buyers and it has significantly lowered the value of their home. All the verbage has "legal" written all over it. They have put me on notice to get rid of my roosters.

Bad day for me. I should have bought a single wide on a100 acres and gotten the hell away from people completely. I have had to endure other people's noise, dogs, etc. every where I have lived. Now this!

I am sorry Mary. We have been lookong for a rental and literally have to beg to have chickens, tell them I have no roosters, and listen to "you have 20 chickens!" It has been difficult. We finally found a place and the neighbor raises turkeys and has males! I am so sorry and i understand how difficult it is.

After my post-op visit today (total waste of time and gas money) Michael and I stopped by my favorite antique mall to look for rustic kitchen stuff for my food photos. We ended up buying a farm tale and chairs from the 1800's for our dining room. We got such a good deal on it, WE got the table for $350 and all six chairs for $125! Here is a blurry picture Michael took with his cell phone. There are two arm chairs and four straight chairs.

It will replace to modern set we have in there now.

I'll keep the wood as is on the table top but I may paint the frame and legs. The wood on the chairs doesn't go well with the table ot the wood in our house so I will either stain them or paint the chairs and table frame a distressed barn red with chalk paint.

But to be honest, our staying in this house does not look good right now. The party just started up across the road and the music is blaring. I'll probably end up going into town to get a room for the night. I just had surgery yesterday and I hurt and can't endure another night of this.

Oh, and my next to the last cream leg bar pullet died today. Sometimes a penthouse apartment with no animals and no upstairs neighbors makes the most sense. You can't get far enough out in the country to avoid the trash in this state.

Mary do they have any say since you are grandfathered in as a ag zone?

We aren't grandfathered as an Ag zone. MY house was built in the 1800's. This property was once an 110,000 acre parcel that owned all the land around it including the slum now known as XXXXXXXXXX. The zoning was changed to R1 over there to accommodate the slum. All the cheap rental houses in there are used as non-occupied grow houses, so maybe they can get their zoning changed to agricultural!

Deb, or anybody else that might know, what are these?

I thought they were candy molds but the tag from the seller says "mini tart pans." That is the miniest tart pan I have ever seen. I put a quarter in the picture for reference.

Here's another cute find from today. I thought it was just a stamped fake mini feed bag. It is about 12"x9". I researched it online and it is an actual bag for an omega 3 feed supplement made in Oregon.

I am going to get all crafty and buy a vintage frame and put chicken wire across the back then mount this bag on it.
