No snow. It is cold. 16 degrees last night. Naturally all my waters are frozen almost an inch deep this morning. I have not had to use the warmmers and really do not like to. There is a chance of bacterial growth more so in warm water. Even when I use the vinegar. All my hens etc. seem to be taking it in stride better than me. We went for 40 degree nights to 17, yikes!!!!! The high today is suppose to be in the high 40's. I know some of you are use to this but not me. What do you do to combat the water problem???
16? sixteen? six-teen? six plus ten?

That would be a record low for Woodland, CA where I live! Sometime last century it got that cold one time.

Around here, pipes would burst. Yes, plastic pipes are use for outside water service here.

We got down to the low 20s last night- BRR!!!! Ice in the waterers even in the heated baby coop! Glad we aren't usually that cold on a daily basis until January, but we still get the occasional night in Nov and Dec!

Tried to move the chicken coops to the new house the other day, only to realize that hubby's hitch ball on his truck was loose when we went to hook up the trailer. Sheesh, if it's not one thing, it's another. And I already had all the chickens caught and caged- so I had to put them all back. I hate doing work for no reason!

Look at how big Merlin is already- I think he's already passed our Aussie mix in both height and weight. He's about 6 months old now. He's growing up super handsome that's for sure!

For all those" cold folks" I just checked, it's 82 in the shade ---
And it'll get really COLD here on Saturday: 63/39 burrrr.

I know! I had to wear a sweatshirt this morning doing my chicken chores--in shorts wearing Croks....

This is the nice time of year though. It does get too hot in the Summer.

If it's above 70*, to me, it's too hot! I want my temps between 50's and 70's year round, no higher, no lower, ever. Remember. we have humidity in the south, which makes lows feel lower and highs feel higher and more miserable. Yeah, my "heat" was on... my DH was splitting wood and tending the wood stove all day. It's finally warm enough to take off my sweatpants and put on something cooler in the house, just in time for temps to fall tonight back into the teens.

Yesterday my Middle Daughter told me she was cold. I checked the thermometer and it was 69 in the house.

We are very whimpy here with the cold. Heat on the other hand....
