Yesterday, I cleaned out the coops in preparation for this storm we are getting. First, I took the shavings bag and worked on the juvenile coop where my 5 week old chicks are. Then, I went to the big coop. I placed the partial shavings bag on the storage shelf and went to work shoveling. Not even 10 minutes went by and I start hearing this crinkle crinkle noise. I looked in the shavings bag, and this is what I found:

That's an Icelandic for you. This is the same girl that went broody in a shavings bag. She was very upset with me when I booted her and used the shavings.

Aw, so cute.

That scarf is really pretty, hangs so nicely too.

I also use heavy duty poultry netting, and find that a wet, heavy snow will not fall through well, and can cause the netting to sag alarmingly. A prop in the middle of the run helps a lot, and I go out with a shovel and whack it all off periodically. I have heard a few horror stories of birds smothered by sagging netting, so I watch it pretty close - we can get wet snowfall in the feet range with a bad storm.

When we get snow, Tom opens the coop door, Isaac charges toward it, skids to a stop and stares. He refuses to go out and nobody gets past him, lol.
Roadblock!

Happy Chooks- that pic of the girl in the shavings is so funny! She knows not to pass up a good thing.

I'm getting a new camera!

I've been wanting my own camera for a while now. Mine, as in, I won't try to take a picture and discovered that someone changed all the settings on it. I told DH that for our 20 year anniversary coming up, that I want a camera instead of jewelry. He's been telling me that he doesn't believe me. He thought it was a trap and I'd complain to all my friends that he didn't buy me jewelry.

(my grandmother has gifted me some of her jewelry, so I don't need any more) So now he's bought me a camera (Canon Rebel with a regular lens and a zoom lens) and he's going to get me an apple computer of my choice also. (Black Friday worked in my favor) He recently switched to the Mac Mini and loves it, so he wants to get me one.

My pictures still won't be as good as Mary's, but oh well. I'll just pretend they are good.
