one thing though. on one run I have a 8 x 20 piece of shade cloth. I kicked the snow off it but that thing is coming down tonight I think.
thes]re is no way I am going to try and take it down out there. way to bitter

Tucker is so excited! What a great video of him! I think he is enjoying this new white stuff called snow. :)

We are 23 degrees already tonight as of 9 pm...going to go to 15 degrees tonight supposedly. Highs tomorrow will be 25. We only got a sprinkling of snow this morning.

I had to move my chickens yesterday out of their metal shed coop and into the plastic coop AKA firewood shed. My DH and kids unloaded all the firewood out of there for me- so sweet of them!

One of my Wellie pullets has frostbite on her toes I believe- she wouldn't come off the roost yesterday morning and then has been limping since then. No visible color changes yet. I hope she will recover. This was with a 150 watt bulb inside the coop- it still felt the same temp. as no lamp due to the qualities of the metal shed. I couldn't even feel the heat from the bulb when I was in there.

Now, inside the double wall plastic shed, there is a noticeable warmth in there- plus the light bulb...much better. My silkie coop is fine since that is made out of wood. They are all great in there with their 150 watt bulb as well.

We are at a record-breaking cold level for nighttime tonight, if the temps do as called for.

Poor chickens. They are not used to this.

HI Kathy! Yes, we are having a heck of a snow. I just went out to make sure my little BCM dum dums made it in tonight. The netting is sagging big time and the chicken wire between coops 2 and 3 is sagging and will probably come down. Oh well.

Been super busy the last couple of months finishing fences at the farm... I now have 7 individual pastures plus the area around the barn... Can't wait for Spring!!!

It's been -5 degrees or colder every night this week so what did I do yesterday? Break out the incubator of course!!! I set eggs this morning... Maybe that will warm things up LOL

Tucker is a cutie and enjoying life !! Way to go Tucker !

I didnt know emus were so comfortable with snow ! Although a neighbor in upstate NY had one. But it was always huddled in a corner of its pen sheltering behind its wind shed. A year later I saw another one join so they can handle that weather.

Mary of the late hatches from your eggs, got 3 pullets, two with RCs and one with RC and Crest, and the rooster is already crowing ! Of course its more a gargled screech, but its his !! One of the pullets is almost his size, which is why I was thinking she could be a rooster but now has her pullets comb and tail feathers. The one SC may be a keeper just for her sweet tame temperament. She is a beautiful dark wheaten right now. So there will be two roosters to rehome with the starter flocks, this one and a dark loud mottled SC grandson of Isi's. Two beauties !
