Now that's a happy penguin. Probably was a baby emu in another life. That's where he learned his moves!

19 here right now. Chicken chores usually take a few minutes in the morning, now an hour and 20 minutes. Lots of ice to break up. Even the inside waterers are frozen. Nights to stay below freezing until next Saturday. It's all good. I got my snow!

Eva, we want pics of the coop!

Good luck with getting above freezing Jason, but I like your icicles! Free Christmas decorations!

I made the best chicken and dumplings last night via the easy route. I cooked a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store in boxed chicken stock, with a little poultry seasoning, until the meat fell off the bones. Pulled the meat out and discarded the bones and skin. Made a butter/flour roux and added it to the pot. Poured in a half bag of frozen pearl onions and a half bag of peas and carrots. Added the meat back into the pot along with some heavy cream, not too much. Opened a can of biscuits and cut them into thick strips on a heavily floured board. Dropped them, one at a time, into the simmering stock, put a lid on and left it undisturbed for 20 minutes. It was so good. Perfect comfort food for a cold snow day!

When I have to use waterers that are not heated, bringing them into the garage overnight where the temp stays above freezing really cuts down on morning chores. Exactly zero here this am.
I may give that a try! I only have one in a coop with juvies and two in the brooder house. But I'll still have to break up the goat, emu, and donkey waterers. Our nipple waterers in the runs all have heaters so I don't worry too much about the big chickens. Thanks for the suggestion!

I empty mine at night when it drops to far below freezing and bring them up to the house so when I add the warm water they do not crack.
I gave mine hot bread and warm water though no one wanted to go out for a drink.

I will take pictures......!!!!! 24 hours... It is being built locally by a woman (!) Builder, who also trains agility dogs and has Cacatoo rescue.... The coop comes completely assembled and weighs about 350 lbs....

I told Eddy he will be safe and I'll get him some nice white colored hens... He said it was OK. Right now his leg is healing - in my bathroom... and I love his morning and anytime crow....
