I've never heard of cabbage relish Cyn. Do you you it like pickle relish? Now I want hot dog at 7:00 a.m.!

I guess you do. It's the first time I've done it. It has shredded cabbage, red and green bell peppers and onions (and green tomatoes, if desired-I didn't have any) with spices, sugar and of course, the vinegar (both apple cider and white) and flour to thicken. You just simmer it for about 20 minutes, then put it in the jars and do a water bath. I also have Robin's (wekiva bird) salsa recipe for when I have tomatoes.

I mad Robin some special extra large chicken saddles that I do for her super huge Buff Orps and she sent me a jar of each. I loved them so much, I begged for her recipe.

Last weekend DH & I painted the chicken house and reinforced around the bottom where the fisher cat got in. (white wire is my hawk baffle - needs restringing)
We built this 14 years ago - 2 total newbies at carpentry - but it's still standing in good shape!

That door is our old kitchen door recycled.
The building in back is my "barn" chicken house. The old girls live there. It's actually a 3 sided shed that is connected to the small barn. We closed it in for the chickens.

I'm another Robin - you can call me RobinH.

I am still in shock. I found this snake inside the coop.

I am now looking for Minnow traps to trap the snakes.....

What kind of snake is it? I did not hear a rattle

it looks like a gopher snake, especially since you are in CA (we don't have black rat snakes here) -- harmless to people, and it also will help keep rodents down, tend to help keep rattlers away (although be careful, gopher snakes will try to pretend they are rattlers by vibrating their tail in dead leaves etc.) -- and i would think the chickens would be a bigger danger to it, rather than the other way around.

Thanks everybody. I've been around awhile but I'm trying to get more interactive - up to now I mostly lurked. This thread feels most like "home".

Here's my pink tree peony that just finished blooming. Our awful winter really affected it - only 4 flowers this year. Last year there were 35. It reminds me of Alice In Wonderland!
