Stella's Social Club

Is that Deanne in CA? I wanted to attend but I'm way out in Oklahoma and I was in the middle of honey season at the time. They recorded it and we will watch some of it at the next Cream Legbar Club meeting in August. Would loved to have picked Walt's brain in person though!!!

Deanne is on the Coast of California. I have some of her project birds, one is an OE from CCLs and Crele Penedesencas. I have crossed them back to Crele Penedesenca to darken up the eggs. I will likely wind up with a bunch of brown egg layers though.

We are lucky to have Walt out here. He has helped a bunch of local breeders with their breeding programs.

Great job with the CL's Rinda!
X2!

Great Job!

Cute.

Smoked Steelhead Trout for dinner, two nights in a row!

That looks so delicious, as does the polento, collard greens, and poached egg.

Hahaha, I'll help. Here's a few of some work I've been doing. We bought this playset off Craigslist for $300 plus about $100 in new parts/boards. It was a beast to take apart and move, and a beast to put back together. But it's done! The little playhouse has good bones but the siding was shot, so that's next week's project. It will be cute!

And this year's honey yum!

My hopefuls for this fall's Cream Legbar breeding pen (swapped stock with another breeder):

The play set looks fun.

Here is the chick that just showed up the other day, with it's momma. (I could have guessed right, she could have been broody somewhere else and just brought the chick into the coop that morning)

Congrats Deb! Hey, are you not helping out at the fair this year?

I am, I was down there last Sunday running the market classes for chickens and turkeys. Thursday I went down with 19 birds, they had an emergency and needed a bunch of animals to fill empty cages for the public to see. There is a bunch of birds out of one of my grow out pens. They are pretty funny, some of them are huge (big English Orps), but they are still chirping like chicks. The public won't notice they are just babies, but a chicken person asked me how old they were because they noticed the voices. I also dropped off hatching eggs for the hatchery display.

I was there this morning helping to proctor the Champion Challenge competition. I go back tomorrow to check into my hotel for the next four days to oversee the youth poultry show.

Back next Saturday/Sunday to judge the dog portion of Master Showmanship. Then I go back on Thursday to check back into the hotel for three days to "host" the open poultry show.

So basically I spend three weeks back and forth to CalExpo. But since the taxpayers of CA pick up the tab

it's a fun diversion for me.

My first thought was you could fence that in and it would make a great coop/run.

That kind of thing has been happening a lot lately.

They are very nice looking!

How does a hen hide outside or in a dust bath for three weeks?????

But I believe in official chicken math, a chick doesn't count if it incubated and hatched in secret!

I made salt crusted beets yesterday. That will be my dinner tonight! Wonder what Michael is going to eat?

I know it won't be beets!
