Well, Michael laid claims to the walnuts and wanted them cadied so that is done. I already ate two turnips raw. But the broccoli rabe is the wild card in this box. I don't get a box next week so I have a couple of weeks to get through it.

My mom used to make latkes but, never purple ones. Don't worry I never ate the normal ones either. I'm sure I exasperate you, Mary ,with my pickiness. But my mom took it in stride

I heard an interesting thing about carrots a few weeks ago. Apparently, they used to be all kinds of different colors - purple, orange, yellow, white. But the carrots we're used to were developed for dutch royalty or something, and later became the orange root fruit we're all used to. You can still get some seed mixes that will turn out all kinds of colors though.

CSA box for the week.

My CSA calls those turnips salad turnips. And they are super tasty, especially with hummus. Your chickens are going to love those carrot and turnip tops!

I should have got the winter box, but I'm still trying to eat up all the squash from my summer box!

Turnip tops can be cleaned chopped and steamed with a little bacon grease or olive oil and served as a green..... Very strong flavor but an excellent side dish for any meal.

Our family used to make a whole meal out of them.

For what its worth Beet tops can be cooked the same way. So if you are doing a beet dish plan on cooking those greens... Beet tops need to be double washed though... sandy soil...
