Stella's Social Club

Another attack today. My youngest heard the alarm call from the birds and my dog and I went racing out. (3:30 in the afternoon) We caught it mid attack and my dog chased it. I caught a brief glimpse of it. That sucker is small and so dang fast, I could hardly focus my eyes on it. It ran right up the side of the metal fence, under the netting and down the other side. It got my Barnevelder male, who is easily 3-4 times it's size. He is still alive, but I'm not sure if he'll make it. I'm hoping he is just in shock, time will tell. He was attacked at the top of the run, and taken to the bottom, where it was escaping with the smaller birds, but that opening is now closed. That is where my dog found it.

I've been triggering the trap at night, but leaving it out there. Something moved my trap last night to get to the tuna smell from the rain overflowing the container. Tonight, the trap is staying set, and I'm adding turkey meat to it. I really hope I can trap it. It's really ticking me off that I cannot stop it. Back to chicken lockdown in the coop.

Sorry Kelly. I sure hope you trap it soon.

Thanks guys. This thing is so fast your eyes can't even focus on it. It's about the size of my grandmother's chihuahua. It is light colored, from what I could see.

Do you have a creed, pond or lake close to you?

@ChickenCanoe had ferret attacks that wiped out most of his breeding stock of chickens, mostly black penedesencas. He posted on the Old folks home what traps and methods he used to control them.

I am so sorry!

There is a large pond about 1/2 mile away.
There is likely a Fisher den there. They live by water and then travel for food. They have found your place now which is terrible!

Can you set traps down there? or on the way from there to your place. It would be great if you could find the den.

The Fishers we have up here are quite dark in color, not sure if there's different looking ones in different areas. I suppose that you could have a ferel ferret, an interesting thought.
Fisher cats are a type of ferret. Ferrets come in a lot of colors:
