Stella's Social Club

Do ya ever go out and look over your flock and grow-outs and get all excited? I did that today. The grow-outs are growing and I just love this age. I get all hopeful, and sit there and just look and look and look. Do any of you do that?

Yeppers. Especially now with the turkeys - they are so darn friendly. And who doesn't love a broody and her chicks? (speaking of which, I need pics of them) My husband complains that I've been out there for hours. (not completely accurate) I find I see a lot of the details for what I do or do not want for my breeders too during this time.

And the #1 BEST reason to go to the coop? It's my quiet time away from the kids when I need a break.

I took a ton of pictures today. Most didn't turn out so good. But, OMG, I started counting...... and counting..... and counting. I quit counting before I got through all the coops.

Ummm, I have quite a few chicks growing out.

I have 5 pens of grow outs, like these.....

At roost time tonight..... Mama, daughter, and BFF (OliveEgger). These girls are just sweet.

This girl waits here for us every night - to put her inside the coop.....

Yes, she is. She is an F2. I so love her and her sisters. All of the Buff Barred are females. I got 6 of them (from 200 hatched eggs). I could try to make a male for them, but I think it will take 2 or 3 generations to get one. They are very plump and so pretty to look at. I call them Buff Barred Rockshires -

She is really beautiful Kathy! And what's with the teeny BR chick in with all the older ones in picture 2?

Someone here is throwing those little chicks. I have had 4 of them. I have one I am growing out now, and though it is growing, it is taking forever! I wonder how big it will get, or if it will be bantam sized. Walt told me to keep it and see. Here is one......

Nice pics Kathy! Wow, are you going to share the totals with us?

I took some pictures too.

This is my four week old Cream Legbar broody with her three babies. This is the second tiny Cream Legbar broody for me!

Here's a little video. Don't panic, there's only 1/2 inch water in the cup.

Here are my latest hactlings. Two Cream Legbar boys, two Cream Legbar girls, a white Cream Legbar, a Splash Isbar, and a Black Isbar (one of the eggs that were hidden in the yard and started developing.) It is being stepped on in the picture. I have four Cream Legbar eggs left (one zipping now) and three Isbars. Then I am taking some time off from hatching! Really. No. Really.

That is just wayyyyyy too cute! I can not get over those baby broodies you have! They fascinate me! I love them! I love that video! Mama is showing the kids every thing they need to know! SWEEEEEETT ! ! !

Numbers? Pffft.... I really don't know.

I must have miscounted. I can't possibly have 200 chicks. I recently unloaded gave away 25 or 30 (mostly boys). Honestly, I wish I could keep them all, too. I know I can't. That is a ridiculous amount. BUT, I really really want to see how they grow out! Most are Delawares (about 100), a few New Hampshires and Barred Rocks, and a dozen or so Orps..... OH, and a few Olive Eggers and Chocolate Orps, too.
