Kathy, I hated turning my Cluck Cluck Bock Bock calendar over this morning....no more Icelandics on my desktop

Maybe you can put the beauteous Buff Barred Rockshire on the 2013 one!

Mary, Those "little mamas" are so cute!

It looks like Anna has weaned her chicks and is back to laying....wonder if that will be it for her this year or if she'll go another round. I still need to get out and take some pics of Asta group.....I think I may have said she had an Elska egg but I looked at my notes and she only had two Icelandics eggs to start, one of her own and one of Bara's. I marked them and Bara's did not develop. Asta also has two silkie chicks (from groundpecker), two Welsummers from Jim (mrheinz77) and one Blue Ameraucana (also from Jim).......it's quite the variety pack!! Hope they are all pullets!! What do you think the odds are?

I didn't know you would have to hatch out so many when breeding....
well, wait. Do you have to hatch out as Many as Kathy, to be a decent breeder?

I don't know if i could handle feeding that many, or enough space to put them all....

I love making those calendars. They have them on sale closer to Christmas. Gotta save up some pictures. We should all pool our pictures and make one here!

Hopin' you got all pullets there!

Quote: Freezer filler! Yes! Well, not all of them. We have a local radio show called, "The Trader Show." You can call in to sell things, buy things, trade things, or ask for items. I am rather impulsive, and when I go outside and decide to make cuts, I usually just call The Trader and give away free chicks.

I am processing chickens in about a week. I am gonna do it myself. I have a pen of meaties, besides my other birds. My 4H buddy gave them to me. He had them for competition for the local youth fair, and didn't want them afterwards. There are cornish cross and some red broilers, too. Yummy!

It depends on what your goals are. My project - creating Delawares - required lots of hatching. I hatched 200 and got only 4 females (and culled one). Out of all those 200, I am down to 3 females and 3 males.

There are so many things i want to try! Even though i am a vegetarian, my DH, and other members of my family are not. Ideal has Red and Black Broilers on sale this week for $.90 cents a piece (when ordering 25+), now if i had enough coop space, I would be jumping on it! But i don't have my big coop up yet...

As far as breeding goes. I want to join those of you who breed and keep the Blue Isbars. They are Beautiful!!
I also ordered Buff leghorns from Ideal (just pullets) and would like to breed those as time goes on....

Fred and Wilma went visiting this evening. Our neighbors adore them, and were thrilled. Travis and Joan were sitting outside with the pair sitting next to them, when we walked over. Tyson, our dog, was there, too. Tyson follows Fred and Wilma anytime they stray. Travis said Tyson always barks at him. Not this time though. He said Tyson just kept circling and circling the pair, as if protecting them. Travis is an animal lover and he was so impressed. He said they all could come visit anytime.

These are some old pictures of Tyson. He has always watched over the birds.

When my broody mama told her chicks they were on their own, Tyson (dog) took over watching them.....
