We had to mow over the septic system today.

Looks like a reverse mohawk.

The green grass over the septic tank is next to the path down to the chickens. On my way back, if I've been in the runs, that's where I pause to clean off the bottom of my shoes. My mini lawn is being fertilized from the top and the bottom

Tsk tsk that Stella. Didn't her mama teach her to treat ~old people with respect? Oh that's right we don't know her background maybe she was orphaned and raised by wolves.

WOW, that picture really tells the story doesn't it?! We got a couple of inches of rain on Saturday afternoon/evening and really needed it. Yesterday was soooooo nice and this morning it's cool again..........the chickens are loving the break from the heat.

I am sooooo sick of this weather, I could scream! 103 forecasted for today. In reading the 10 day outlook, it says, "drought should continue." I go outside and hose down the ground every day. It soaks in so fast, but the penned birds (grow outs) immediately lay on it to cool off. They are all in shaded pens, and that helps.

Here are a couple of the Icelandic pullets growing out.....

I took a ton of pictures today. Most didn't turn out so good. But, OMG, I started counting...... and counting..... and counting. I quit counting before I got through all the coops.

Ummm, I have quite a few chicks growing out.

I have 5 pens of grow outs, like these.....

At roost time tonight..... Mama, daughter, and BFF (OliveEgger). These girls are just sweet.

This girl waits here for us every night - to put her inside the coop.....

Kathy... do you by chance have any pictures of the buff barred hens when they were chicks?

Just found a dead WCB polish pullet. She was absolutely fine yesterday. There didn't appear to be anything wrong with her, so I'm guessing it's my first heat related loss.

I processed three cockerels out of Camp Kenmore this morning. I was happy to have three less mouths to feed, but I didn't want the numbers to go down this way...
