Just a guess...

I'll take the hot chocolate. I've made too much jam this year - so everybody is getting jam. I usually make cookies, but I'm on strike this year. I'll do the kinds my kids want, but I'm not doing 13 different kinds for all the family. I'm not looking to find that weight again.

Oooooh, love the root beer reindeers! Those are cute!

Next year I want to do homemade vanilla extract.

I've been doing theme baskets for my stepkids each year. I buy baskets (from Michael's) or big gift bags.

Last year was breakfast -
Dozen eggs
Jar of homemade wild blackberry jam
Loaf of yeast bread
Loaf of quick bread
Decorated with a kitchen towel and big homemade bow.

This year will be dinner -
Jar of home canned marinara sauce from our garden
Package of dried homemade pasta
Loaf of homemade french bread
Not sure what else I might include, maybe I have enough homemade limoncello to bottle them each a small bottle.

Kathy! Dang. That Lukka. As soon as she kicks these babies to the curb and starts laying you can expect a package. I'll have to grab them fast before she starts siting!

Kelly you are going to be mighty unpopular at the Christmas party!

Well, the fridge is clean, the oven is clean and the garage is empty. The cleaning crew comes tomorrow to do a thorough "move out" cleaning. As soon as the barn is empty and the coops cleaned out we list the house for sale. Things never change over there. The nasty neighbor's son ( in his 40's) and his derelict friends were caught during the night fishing in "Old Mike's" pond. Mike is in his mid eighties. A scuffle ensued and old Mike punched nasty neighbor's son in the face. They fled before the sheriff arrived. Gosh I am gonna' miss all that. Good times. Good times. One of the main reasons I wanted out of there was that I was worried sick about another confrontation between Michael and the nasty neighbor's derelict son. Michael sometimes doesn't know when to just let something go. I will be so glad when it is sold and I no longer have to even drive down that road.

Mike - just be prepared to get REALLY dirty and bring home lots of sand. I spent all day yesterday washing everything and trying to get rid of all the sand!

Mary - gorgeous pictures! I need to take some new pics.

Jason - so sorry to hear about your cockerel. I know from experience that bobcats leave no feather pattern. Just *poof* gone. Since the beak was left, I'd think owl.

My youngest son (9) is the ever forceful chicken protector. I HAD to go outside yesterday because he saw hawks. No hawks, but there were about 20 turkey vultures circling 30 or so feet above the ground. I told him they were vultures and he wouldn't believe me. He stayed outside to watch over the chickens.
We found the rest of him. headless and featherless. tons of talon marks. My wife saw a Red Tail Hawk in the oak tree by the chicken area. I saw it this last weekend.
If it knows what's best for itself it wont hang around this weekend

Deb,
Those are by far the best gifts EVER.... The home made Gifts from the heart.
I usually do a kitchen theme... I make quilted pot holder, crochet dish cloths and yummy treats, I I put them in a basket. One year I didn't have enough time.
I had some very unhappy friends. I never realized home much they look forward to it :)

That is the kind of gift I love to get. Really, the best - one size fits all, right?!

As I was rearranging my pantry and storage area, I realized I had forgotten about the few fresh beets I had left. I knew I would be hungry, or wanting to snack, later. So, I put them on to boil as I worked. YUMMY, yummy, yummy ! ! ! I absolutely love fresh beets, smothered with (real) butter and sprinkled with salt and pepper.

Beets - it's what for dinner.

Bonus on beets - little boys love this - if ya eat enough of them, you can pee pink!
