Step 2 Kiddie Barn Coop

Don't forget a lock or latch or something for the white double doors under the screen door...unless you already have something, but I don't see it? Also, take out two of the nest boxes and put in a roost.

Looking pretty awesome!

disclaimer: take my advice with a grain of salt, as my first ever coop is still only about half built :) have fun!

Up til now, we didn't need a latch. But they are getting much bigger and this morning when I came to let them out, the doors were pushed open slightly. And as far as a roost, my husband is fashioning and small ladder at a slant for inside the coop on the side where the water hangs. They naturally gravitate toward that window.

With regard to the latch, I was thinking more along the lines of keeping predators out. Unless the coop is going to be totally enclosed in a secure run? A raccoon would have no problem opening that door up!

Yes, we're eventually enclosing. I'm supposed to be here inquiring about bendable materials for making a curved roof for the top of the enclosure. You see how well I'm doing... haven't done it yet. The problem is, hubby wants to use chicken wire for the enclosure, so at some point I'm going to have to convince him to use hardware cloth. We take these things in steps so as not to overwhelm him. I'm just thrilled he's on board.

Adorable!!!! Now this would be something to put in my chickens pen area for them to play in. I'd love to have one.

I realize this is a 5 yr old thread, BUT I was so excited to see this design.
I just bought a little barn like that...and am going to use some of those ideas.

Did you take the whole yr to finish it or just sharing your pics? I just bought a step 2 sweetheart playhouse to fix up for ducks that I will be getting.

No---it was done last year--they have been using it since late spring 2017. I worked on it last winter in our garage... I'm just way behind in posting again. :idunno
