Stephen King's Reading Corner

I still couldn't find Delores Clairborne (sp?) at my library but I picked up a copy of "Lisey's Story". It's about a writer's wife after the writer dies and is dedicated to Tabby (King's wife).

I've only gotten a few pages into it so can't comment on what it's like yet.

Let us know what you think. I've read it but will keep my opinion mum until you're done.

Since I was just laying around with nothing to do yesterday but be sick, I read the entire book "Lisey's Story".

The start was semi-confusing to me (or that was the temp I was running ). Probably took me the first 100 pages or so to kind of get into it. This story seemed like so much of it took place in King's head, that he knew what he was writing about but I was having trouble picturing some of what he knew. If I hadn't been stuck at home all day, might not have finished it.

Overall eh, not a bad story but not one of his best (IMO). Will I read it again like I have some of his other stories? No, probably not.

First of all I hope you're feeling better already! And wow to you finishing a book in one day! I've heard about readers doing that but my personal max is 100 pages a day. And Lisey's Story is 650 pages+!!!
Sorry to hear you didn't like it too much. Just need to make those experiences too in order to be able to appreciate the good books I guess...

Thanks for the well wishes Wolfgang!

There were some things I liked about the book, it wasn't a total waste of reading time. But you're right, a little not so good makes you appreciate the really good :)

You know what's worse than a bad book? (I'm not referring to Lisey's story here lol) An originally good book translated horribly. Happened to me with Salom's Lot...
Should have stopped reading it when I noticed the flawed translation and switch to a newer translation or even the English original. Oh well, someday I'll read that one again and place it in my personal King rankings where it belongs. ;)

Has anybody read Sleeping Beauty already?

@N F C I felt it was so so. Not one of his best but readable lol. Hope you're feeling better!

@Wolfgang B. I am reading it now. The stuff is likely to hit the fan soon in the book but so far I'm liking it. I'm more than half way through but haven't had much time to read lately.

ETA anyone read Under the Dome? It's so dark I felt I had the weight of the world on my chest. The ending I was disappointed in.

"Salem's Lot" was one of the first of his books I read many years ago...great story!

Haven't read "Sleeping Beauty".

"So so" sums up Lisey's Story for me too. And sometimes so-so is good enough.

So you're reading Sleeping Beauty or Salem's Lot?
