Stepped on by horse

Glad to hear the toe is looking better! I bet you're right about the compression/support aiding in the healing. As for the open spot, I cannot say enough about vetricyn. It IS $30-40 a bottle, but remarkable in it's ability to rapidly promote healing. Best of luck to you and your girl!

I'm New to chickens so sorry I have no advice to offer but thank you for everyone's advise, I'm learning everyday about these lil critters that im finding that I have to check on before and after I go to work.

Thank you for the advise about Vetricyn. I ended up using the blue kote and she is looking better, but I will pick some up to have on hand for next time. Seems one of the critters or another is always getting into trouble. I have been eyeing the Vetricyn in TSC, but wasn't sure if it actually worked.

I used Vetricyn on my wee chick who caught it's toe on something and ripped off the toenail and some skin on the bottom of the toe. She healed very, very fast.

That looks really painful! Are you sure that her toe is not broken? Have you checked for that? If it is it may be helpful to splint it too otherwise it can take longer to heal and heal crooked... just wondering... hope she heals nice and fast!

I hope the horse is sorry. Horses weigh alot, she is very lucky if it didn't break her toe. Poor thing - I would have liked to hear her cuss you out in 4 languages tho. LOL

I don't think it is broken. I let her out today for a while and watched her walk. Other than favoring it a little bit, she uses it normally, but I don't know of any way to tell for sure without an x-ray. She lets me manipulate it now without complaining, so I think it is starting to feel better.

It truly was an accident on the horse's part. It was my fault if anyone's. I didn't see red girl in the stall and let one of the mare's in for dinner. The barn is darker than outside, and I don't think the mare saw her either. Then there was a screaming chicken and a startled horse. The mare is very kind, but she is a draft cross, and not very agile. Thankfully she is barefoot.

So glad to hear she is feeling better, if it was broken it would still be swollen and she certainly wouldn't want you touching it - sounds like things are on the mend
