sterilizing feathers

Is there a way to sterilize feathers? for art projects and such

I've wondered this same question. I have a 10 month old Grandaughter and another on the way....so I've been thinking I'd like to save some feathers or let them hold them, but not sure about the germs etc.

I've wondered about spraying with Lysol or a disinfectant lightly....

See page 17, feathers were washed, rinsed and sterlized by dry heat or wet steam.....

Ok, sorry to revive the dead thread, but this link was dead...
...our three year old has taken a liking to collecting the feathers and my wife and I were wondering how clean they are and how to clean them? Any thoughts?

Thanks! Very helpful indeed! You know I never even thought about the dust on the feathers... How harmful d'ya think residual DE on dropped feathers is to a 3-year old?
