Hi, Please help! He/she hatched this morning but the membrane was still on it and now it's stuck! I heard that you can put them in a warm water bath under a heat lamp in order to try to get the stuck membrane off but my question is..... can you do this while they still have the yolk sac attached because I know it will rupture as soon as you try to pick him/her up so what should I do? The poor thing can hardly move because its stiff & dried on, He/she's been like this all day! The humidity is at 65 and the temp is 98.5.

Hello....
If your still in need of help?....You can moisten the membrane with a bit of cooking oil or Vaseline on a Q-Tip and use tweezers to gently remove it...Leave the Chick laying done and only go as far as you can till the Chick can get out..If the umbilical bleeds ?...Dip it into cornstarch and it will dry up and fall off...

Good Morning! All is well & worked out fine! We actually combined both the warm bath and then oil (we used sunflower because it's all we had) methods. I was afraid to use a tweezers because they move around and twitch so much so we used a super soft rabbit hair/angora brush we had and here he/she is this morning!

We thank you all so very much for your help! I probably over reacted on this, as I'm so sure it will not be my last. BYC has been so great and very helpful. We are glad to be a part of it, learn from our experiences and to help others! I don't leave my chickens without it! (byc android app. :)
