Sticky on sex linked crosses

Tim,
Your book sounds like an awesome reference.
Just an idea - if you don't end up getting a publisher (although I can't see why not) you could always self-publish with one of the online companies out there. There are some that do offer ISBN so your book will be on a big online bookseller's list. (I'm not naming names as I am not sure if that is allowed here.) I have been looking into it myself. Then advertise here and sell your book directly to BYCers and such. Some companies you only need to order one at a time and people can purchase from their website, you choose your price, etc., others you order a quantity, then sell.
Regarding ISBN, some companies you own your ISBN (purchase it outright), others it is still owned by the companies, so not as much control over your work.
Hope this helps.

I taught at the high school level. I would loved to have worked on a PHD and carried out research and taught at a university. I was married and had two children when I went back to school. I worked 20-40 hours a week and went to school full time. At the end of four years I was tired and just wanted a job. My wife and her family were very supportive but my mother, father, brothers and sister were indifferent. None of my family showed up when I graduated.

Neither of my parents graduated from high school so education was not big on their list. I thought about going back and getting a Phd but I stopped at a Masters. My boys were getting older and it was more important that I be there for them.

I had to get my Masters in Education so I could go up on the pay scale. I did some research in Biology as a part of my degree. I did undergraduate research and have carried out voluntary research with the Missouri Conservation Department and the United States Geological Survey. I have spent the last 8 years studying chicken genetics and researching the literature concerning how genetics work on the cell level, biochemistry pathways and things like that.

I will eventually be published. I need better facilities. I have plenty of ideas, just no place to carry out the research.

If I can get my book published, that will give me the boost I need to be considered for publication in a scientific journal. The journals may not consider my work because I do not have a PHD but I will figure a way around that.

I am waiting for an administrator to give me the go ahead for the sticky.

Zoo Mom,

Thanks for the info. I have looked into self publishing. With your additional information I will do some more research and send off some emails.

Tim

I hope that isn't a problem. I gather it can be difficult to get published by journals if one is not still in academia. It's taken a friend of mine well over 10 years to get published, in relativistic quantam mechanics & he has got a PhD.

Your book sounds fascinating. I bet you'll get it published easily.

If you don't have luck in US, there are a few British publishers who specialise in such books, such as Gold Cockerel Books (published Grant Breteton's book) or Crowood Press Ltd (published a few of Chris & Mike Ashton's books).
I seem to remember Chris telling me one of the ways they were selling their first book was having Barry put up an ad on Feathersite. Now it seems the book is stocked by all big book sellers.
