Still in search of the elusive (mythical?) 1 lb. A&M...

I have obtained some fine birds from several sources, but none of them are close to the 1lb. range, though, my last hatch is more promising.
Does anyone know when the weight will peak, or, they have gained their weight potential on average?
(One batch only had a 9 oz. bird at 7 weeks, though this latest batch, two weeks younger, already have some 10 oz. ones, already larger than my Bob Whites...more promising but still a little short for reaching 1 lb, would think.)
I would like to collaborate with someone working toward original A&M goals so that diversity can be maintained.

Weight peaks at 12 weeks

So for 10 oz at 5-7 weeks is VERY GOOD you may get lbers out of them! Keep an eye on those!

Don't know about BIG A&Ms...but I just got some Jumbo brown eggs from a breeder that says his birds are averaging...

Males...12oz
Females..16oz

The eggs are nice and BIG....so hoping these birds will be some of the biggest I have seen.

OOPS...just had some of the "runts" for dinner last night...maybe I should have let them have a little longer chance to max out...
Naaaaa!
I culled pretty heavy out of this batch, out of 70, I will keep about 3 males and 9 females to watch. No need to feed birds that will not make the cut...they might pass along their "small" or not so big, genes.
I use a 16 oz.plastic Coke bottle cut out on both ends to insert the birds to hang on a scale. The better batch I told you about, 2 weeks or so behind, would not even fit in it...had to upgrade to a 1 liter bottle for them to fit...at about 5 weeks. Hopeful batch...
But, some browns that were accidently sent with them, must be jumbos, are even bigger than these A&Ms...already quite larger than my Bobwhites. Never liked the meat of the Browns, but these guy's size is quite notable.

NOW, my question is this: is anyone breeding back to Browns to get larger A&M size with any success without making the meat darker? If so, how did that work?
I would be tempted to try to do some with this batch if they continue so well.

Honestly I dont see any difference in the meat of the A & M as opposed to the browns...so I really dont believe it will effect a thing crossing the two colors

Well if you think about it are any of our A&Ms still 100% A&M, prolly not they've all been prolly outcrossed to other types which is why the meat isn't like it was designed to be because they aren't the true thing anymore they're just the color.

He states he has the real things, although I've heard many negative feedback about him. And no way in hell am I paying 1$ for an egg that might not hatch right now, MAYBE in the future when I'm more serious and I DO find out that they are the true thing and are white meat I will buy some eggs from my father who only eats white meat.

1 lb.... that would be great. Most of mine are around 8oz.

I really think that the birds I got from the local high school ag class are, for lack of a better word, seconds. I have a few large, all white colored birds but for the most part I think I have mutts (small and spots of color).

If I was experienced in hatching, I would pay $1.00 an egg for true white meat A&M's. Out of the dozen or so that we have eaten, I have yet to have a true white meat bird out of my flock.

Okay here's a question, I've heard of 2lb bobwhites and I know some people on here have bred coturnix to bob's SO my question is do you think it's possible to breed a Coturnixzilla?
