My 6 month old buff still can’t stand and is panting. I originally wrote on Sunday when I thought she was egg bound. She has since laid two eggs. Her poop looks normal and she is eating and drinking. One thought was Marek’s, but her eyes look okay and her leg isn’t the classic sticking out behind her, unless that is something that doesn’t happen for a while. She seems to have less strength in her left leg and possibly is using her wing for balance. She continuously just sits on her keel. Can it be an injury? The panting to me indicates she is in pain. What can I give her for that? She also feels a little spongy in her abdomen area. Thoughts please?

Spongy in her abdomen area can be a clue. Do you know whether her crop is functioning properly, meaning does she go to bed with it full and wake up with it empty? It’s great that she’s laying, but is her vent clean and clear? Is her breast muscle wasting away? I would suspect a laying disorder, but she seems young for that. Does she have access to anything in the yard that can make her sick, like a rotting compost heap?

Marek's doesn't always present as one leg stiff as a board behind them, or as wonky eyes.

I didn't see your other thread, so please forgive me if I ask anything you've already explained.

How old is she? Was she vaccinated for Marek's? When did the symptoms start and what did they look like?

Is she completely immobile? If so, it would be beneficial to put her in a sling. That way she's not resting on her keel on the hard ground.

You say her abdomen is squishy. What part are you referring to? Between her legs? Squishy abdomen and panting sound like fluid retention. That leads me to think some sort of laying disorder as well.

Pictures of the way she's positioning herself may be helpful too.

Here are some pictures.

She is about 6 months. I didn’t vaccinate her for Marek’s. He symptoms developed on Sunday.
Her vent is pink and puffy. Her crop doesn’t feel full right now despite the fact that she is eating.
Is she pooping normally? How old is she?
Pooping normally, 6 months old.
