A black sexlink is a a cross bred bird female being barred and males being black when crossing them the barring genes from the mother are passed down from the mother to the male chick. The females would be black (with red depending on what the hen was crossed with) because of the fathers genes.
The chicks can be sexed as soon as they are hatched and later own in life though feather coloring.

Oh, okay! So another name for Black Star. We have a Black Star rooster, he has some red and has more white bars. Is that just bc of what the Barred Rock is crossed with?
