Im not the expert of freeranging chickens and getting theyre eggs but maybe you can get a nest for them by(this might be a bit cruel)Knocking down a few bird nests without eggs from trees or make your own for the chickens.I have 11 chickies, 3 Red Production (18.5 weeks), 1 BO (18,5 weeks), 1 BO roo (18.5 weeks), 6 Ameruacanas & EEs all 6.5 weeks old. And no eggs yet. The older ones free range all day and sleep in a coop with lovely nesting boxes. The little chickies sleep in the summer house, which is a run with a partial roof.
I'm worried that with the free ranging they will start laying in the yard. We have so many hiding places- 1 1/2 acres and a good deal is wooded. My nesting boxes are prepared and have nice brown wooden eggs in them. But so far I only see a single feather in there- and who knows it might have just drifted in there. The girls don't go into the copp anytime, other than to sleep. *sigh*
