Something I realized today - my two oldest hens, Ladybug and Snowflake, who are almost 9 years old grew up in that old coop. They just moved back into their childhood home.

PHEW! I avoided punishment!
Isn't the duck on the end so cute? I've never seen her snuggled up against the chickens before (she doesn't like chickens and vice versa), but it was very cold so she had no choice, I guess.

I wanted to explain why I added the knee walls. A couple years ago I re-sided The Recoop. I tore off the rotted OSB, replaced it with plywood sheathing, then installed cedar shakes on top of that (on three sides). The cedar shakes require lots and lots of nails and those poke through the sheathing. So I built knee walls (with PVC wall sheets) to cover the nails at ground level to protect the chickens from from hurting themselves on them.

I have the roosting bar quite low now for my elderly and large birds. I may keep it that way or I may raise it and add a poop board underneath later. Not sure yet..my coops are always evolving!

But so far I am very happy with how it turned out. It looks almost new again!

You can tell how much they appreciate the heater with everyone turned towards it! Love the duck getting in for the cuddle.
