Oh okay I see.

No he acts healthy but his white feet start turning reddish brown around the toes. The fur even looks dyed. The fungal yeast likes to hang out between the toes and in the ears.

I hope you find out why your best bud is so stinky

As for taking him to the vet smelly that's not going to happen. When I put him in the laundry room
with a ceramic floor for a couple hours, the room reeks until you mop the floor with detergent. I'm
serious when I say this dog odor sticks around. The sunroom, deck all reek. I have rubber clogs I've
dedicated to wear when I go outside to visit with him. Im not finicky or too particular but this bad smell
would very difficult to get out of auto upholstery.

dogs can get yeast infections on their skin, and there may or may not be any visible malady. Doing a skin scraping yourself won't yeld helpful results most likely. Rusty stains on paws and eyes usually points towards infection or allergies....smell the insides of his ears...are they even smellier than the rest of him?

That is good advice...chances are if you really want to resolve this, he HAS to go to the vet smelly...put him in a plastic crate if needed. That way you can wash it down and bleach it out when you get home.

My dogs get flea allergies every year. They use Advantix, but even if one fleas bites my dogs, it's starts. It starts with itching for fleas, licking paws, and smelly ears. Then we get the overall 'ewie' smell!

The vet says when the flea bites (even one), the dog is allergic to the saliva of the flea and it starts the reaction.

My doctor prescribes antibiotic and prednisone. He first gives them a shot for the itching. It all calms down because we are going into winter, but we will start this cycle all over again the next season!

So maybe have your vet put your dog on a run of antibiotics and see if you get the relief. I wish you the best because this was a hard thing to figure out. We went the route of food allergies first because we've always been up on the flea protection. But like I said, 'ONE' flea can start this viscious cycle.

Below I put a link that was posted by another BYC member. I think the info is great in it.

I haven't read it in a while so it may say otherwise but the newer shampoos of today are much milder than what they use to be. There are many quality shampoos you can use weekly on dogs.

We have a lot of cold weather here and I use to use cornmeal to clean the coat of a stinky coated dog such as a German Shephard or Collie type coat. I took dry raw cornmeal and worked it in the coat with my hands.I used a curved slicker brush to get it out. I'm sure you could use a pin brush as well but it would take longer.

I 'm sure your dog needs more than cornmeal but I would try it in maybe a square foot section just to see if it pulled some of the stench out. It couldn't hurt to give it a try until a change of diet etc. could make a difference for him. I hope I've helped.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful suggestions. I now have a dog that smells fresh as a newborn pup and stays that way. It was indeed most
likely a yeast infection. Tractor supply has a pink anti-fungal that works extremely well. This is the
first time in months Teddy has stayed fresh smelling after a bath. I think I was working so hard to keep him clean the more obvious symptoms stayed
hidden. I did the usual shampoo then half/half diluted vinegar rinse then applied the anti-fungal medication and now have a very happy dog. It's like a miracle.
A later scraping on the top of his head where I wasn't cleaning as vigorously indicated a fungal infection.
