Okay my girls are 5 weeks old.....They are getting VERY stinky.

I had planned to build them permanent coop...but, things have changed and I will be moving in a few weeks.

Tommorrow, I am building them a temporary coop outside. Temps at night are in the low 40's. I guess I could rig a light to go inside but I am worried that they would burn themselves on it since this temporary coop will be small (4X4X4) They will be able to go outside during the day and daytime temps are in the 60's and 70's. I've been trying to climatize them, I turned out the brooder light and have been leaving a window open all the time and they seem fine.

They will be in a big coop in just a few weeks.

Thoughts???

5 weeks old, good temperature - They're fine! Just as long as they cannot get out of their coop/run, they're fine.

With temps at night in the low 40's I'd suggest you still keep a heat lamp near the coop, but that may be it.

Usually when my chicks reach 1.5 months to 3 months old, I let them into the real world. By then they're already accustomed to not having much heat, and are used to 45-50 degree weather.
