Hi-
I was wondering how to do stitches on a bird- if I were in a position in which I would have to.

Questions:

Would I have to numb it? what with?
What kind of thread?
Can I use and ordinary (STERILE) sewing needle?

Thanks

Anyone?

Hi, I have used just regular sewing thread. You can get the thicker kind and it has worked fine. My doberman came in the house one night around midnight with a 1 inch tear that needed stitching. After cleaning the wound with soap and warm water, I held ice on it and would put a stitch in and hold ice on it again and put another stitch etc till it was done. You could do the same on a chicken. If you lay the chicken down and cover its head with a towel they tend to lay very still for you. Sometimes a vet might sell you surgical thread or give you some as well. I have had that too. Hope this helps.
