Stoat in my yard, how do I catch him?

I was outside earlier today, and I saw a small stoat run right by me, within mere feet of my ankles. I am in the process of hatching ducklings rn, and I am worried the stoat will be a threat to the babies once they are outside. My two dogs tried a few times to catch him, but failed. How do I catch him? Is there a way to capture the animal without purchasing a trap? What bait should I use? Also, if it is avoidable, I don't particularly want to kill or injure the stoat. Would a live trap work, to catch and release him elsewhere, or is a kill trap my only option? Finally, I do have a cat, and I don't want to accidentally catch and possibly hurt him either.

Any tips are appreciated!

Thanks, Amie

Having a very safe coop and run is your best (only!) option!
Check about trapping options; alive trap, baited for weasels, will catch cats too. Your cat hopefully will only get caught once and then learn to avoid the trap. What will you do if you do catch it?
Check with the DNR website, at least too.
Mary
