Hi, I have pond for my ducks that is made with one of those rubber pond liners and it always freezes in the winter and wondered if anyone knew if you could use one of those stock tank heaters. Or would the heater melt the plastic. And would you buy a floating one or a sinking one?

I think you'd be better off with a floating one. The liner is EPDM rubber, not plastic. I believe it will take up to 300F but to be on the safe side I wouldn't put a tank heater directly on the liner.
Anyway it's the surface that freezes, not the bottom where it's in contact with soil that will keep it from freezing.

Are stock tank heaters safe for ducks who like to nibble everything?

I would think so. Horses and cows can bump them when they put there heads in the tank and they dont get burned, but then again a ducks beak is small and could get into a crack in the heater or something.
