Hopefully the chicks were picked up by mistake. It will be very hard to prove those chicks were stolen, unless you have solid proof. I would have not even had those chicks in with the ones i was selling. It is just too tempting for someone to take them. I hope you get your chicks back, but in reality i do not see it happening even with the police involved.

Unless you have pictures of the chicks, and they have UNMISTAKABLE markings, it will be impossible to prove they were ever yours if they deny it.

That's assuming you ever see them again, since you don't know which one would have them, or if they sold them to someone else.

You first mistake was leaving them alone with your birds

The second mistake was getting on here and talking about it, since it's certain now that the birds won't be found in their posession.

I'd say the best thing to do is learn from the experience, and be more careful in the future.

Starting a big fuss on here won't help anyone or anything at all

I'm so sorry to hear this........ I hope they do the right thing and return your birds. That's just low. I've stopped having most customers come to the house, especially people I don't really know. I meet them down the road. I've had a few weird people and it's just not worth it even thou I enjoyed showing people all the different animals and many people buy what they see..... People would just show up, or come knock at my door at 7 am... Or just get real creepy, try to take something etc.....so I just had to stop.

Wow, that sucks. Hopefully it was just a mistake.. I personally would first allow a save face moment to see if you can get your chicks back (hey, I know you didn't mean it but those two chicks must have hopped into the box).. :p If that doesn't work, then it's war. LOL.

I now meet almost everyone at a local truck stop to sell chickens, but if I don't for some reason I always separate out the ones for sale from ones I am keeping - far far away. :p

I would file a theft report right away. I doubt you will get them back, but atleast you can put the names of these people out in public so others know.

It's very sad the lack of respect people have for other people and their property these days. I actually find it quite depressing. I hope you get your chicks back.

She is in your area,
I woke up mad at myself for letting it happen. She picked them both up more than 1 time, and was told NOT FOR SALE, and put them back.
I'm thinking about offering her a trade for an older Lavender, but that feels like ransom.

I know in my heart that I will never get them back, she probable goes to Walmart for shoplifting also.
If I have any luck tracing the phone number to a name I will put it on CL and PM everyone in the Jacksonville area.
If she did it to me she will do it again.

I would contact them and let them know that she might have gotten the chicks by mistake. If she denies it then explain that you have video from a closed circuit camera and either she comes clean or you will go to the authorities. Advise that you are playing nice but that video evidence will be quite damning. Chances are that she'll play it up as a mistake after that.

ETA: wireless web cams are fairly inexpensive and always a good thing to have around when strangers are making purchases.
