Have your prosecutor serve you a subpoena. Not only must you go, and your boss has to let you, some companies pay for your time in court whether a witness or a juror.

Have you had a reply from them yet, clarifying what you are supposed to do? And how is it going about getting the time off to go to court? Surely in your situation there is no way that a boss could stop you? I think I would quit my job if they tried, rather than lose this possible chance to help find your horse.

Isn't this legal stuff horrible when you don't know what you are expected to do, what the next step is and everything feels out of your control! I just found out yesterday that for my court hearing in 3 days time I had to write a document by today, refuting claims the other woman had made about why she should get special treatment from the court. How on earth could I do my best in such haste? How on earth you (or I) supposed to be able to fight best for what is needed when you don't even know what is expected or even what steps are open to you??? It's so confusing and you feel so helpless! I am feeling for you on Dec 2 (in the US is that 2 days or 3 days from now?).

Is Rescue Inc still on the scene? And media still interested?

Yep... If your employer needs you so badly that they can't let you take off a single day for a court appearance without making a big deal of it, then they obviously need you too badly to fire you or let you resign. So, tell them you're going and go.

If they don't really need you that badly but make you fight for time off just because they think they have that kind of power over their employees...quit, then go, win your horse back, then find another job.

Do not ask your boss for the time off to go to court. Just tell him you will not be in that day because you have a court appearance. Period.
