My girls are around 6mos now, their wattles appear to be brightening/growing, but they're laying no eggs. I realize it's getting into wintertime, but they're under 12.5 hours of full-spectrum light each day.

I get mixed reporting when I google, so I'm looking for personal experience on the subj.

I've been assuming that if they aren't laying by 7-8mos and it's into winter, it'll just be Spring before they lay..? (This is fine- I'm not DYING for eggs -but I CAN'T WAIT to come clean the coop & find a little egg in there! I bet the first egg is sooooo exciting!)

BTW a chicken person told me a lot of banties never lay, ever. Is that true?!

THANKS!

I think the egg laying should start by late winter. While you could get a barren bird of any breed, it's pretty unlikely.
