Stop eating your own eggs!!!

You can get BOSS almost anywhere that sells wild bird seed as well. I buy mine at Winco, a grocery outlet that sells it in bulk. That way I can choose the amount I buy and it is very reasonable. My girls love it.

Another thing I read and I did try for about a week, is give them a small dish of milk. I pretty much tried everything everyone threw at me. I didn't want to have to cull the bird. I'm also thinking it was a one time incident. If you can, keep checking the boxes. I know it's hard when your gone, but if you have a morning your around, go out and check often.

My birds ate an egg one time, but it was a super thin shelled egg (they were just getting started with the laying) and I'm pretty sure it broke on it's own. They haven't eaten one since.

I had two thin shelled ones this morning. They didn't eat the whole egg, just took a taste. I think that's what has been happening.

Lots o' reason chickens will eat an egg, do some research. Some say they can't be broke but I have a roo that hasn't eaten an egg since I build some nice nest boxes.

If you can't break her then it's time for her to go.

Wishing you the best

The ONLY time my chickens eat their own eggs is when they are already cracked or broken. They will never crack an egg open on their own. That being said, in the winter when temperatures drop below freezing, the eggs freeze and the shells crack. If I do not gather the eggs shorty after they are laid, my chickens will eat them.

I have my TWO egg eaters in isolation. I haven't had an issue yet today......

I have the guts for another Coop ready to knock together, I guess I'd better get on it!

I will be trying my hand at building the roll-away boxes too.

In five years I have never had an egg eater until 1 week ago, the first day I assumed it was a thin egg, but after 4 days running I got out a flock block for the first time and the egg eating has stopped. I hope it doesnt start again. It also got a lot colder here when this started and they were spending more time in the coop. Bored maybe??
